MARCH 3, 2015

March 2015 was when we first met. I was already a second-year student at the University of Melbourne. My church friends and I were busy preparing for an event to welcome the new students who had just arrived at the city. Vivian joined the event, and that’s how we knew each other. Over the next few months, we connected well over mutual interests: biology, music, and church.

JUNE 20, 2015

After many church fellowship meetings, ministries, piano lessons (Yes, I was the teacher; Yes, it was intentional), and study sessions together, our relationship became official 4 months later, on the 20th of June 2015.

APRIL 1, 2016

In my final year at university, I answered the calling to full-time church ministry. It was a tough decision for both Vivian and I, since it meant that our future plans would have to be changed completely. After giving ourselves some time to think through the many implications of me becoming a pastor, we decided to take on the challenge.

JUNE 14, 2017

After graduation, I flew to Philadelphia to begin my pastoral training at Westminster Theological Seminary, while Vivian remained in Melbourne to complete her postgraduate study in dietetics. Despite the time difference and the intensity of our studies, we would always make time to call each other every day. For the next three years, this was how we maintained and progressed our relationship. While we know that long distance relationship is not for everyone, we are immensely grateful that our loving God sustained us throughout our journey.

APRIL 6, 2020

And just like that, three years passed by quickly. Vivian and I were reunited in Melbourne once again after I flew back to Melbourne in the midst of the pandemic. During the pandemic, we both graduated and started working.

FEBRUARY 8, 2021

Soon after, we got engaged at our favourite beach, the Sorrento Back beach.

NOVEMBER 6, 2021

Soon, by God’s grace, we will be getting married on the 6th of November 2021. And we wholeheartedly wish to have you celebrate this joyful occasion with us ?

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

I still remember the first time I met Jin. It was my first time in our church community, in a university fellowship. He was one of the first people who greeted me, and he was the one that left the most impression. He was warm, welcoming, and very genuine. Little did I know that it was going to be the beginning of a long friendship! He’s become one of my best friends, a dear brother in Christ.

Throughout these 7 years we have made so many great memories together—in laughter and in tears, in success and in struggle, in common goal and in disagreement. Throughout all those times Jin has always been a faithful friend, who’s ready to hear, rebuke, pray, and encourage in the Lord. I can’t help but aspire to grow when I see his great heart.

I am overjoyed for his upcoming wedding with Vivian. They’ve waited for so long and spent so much time apart when Jin was in seminary. Like many others, I was very happy to see them together again when he came back (and hey, one of my best friends is finally back!). Now that the day is fast approaching, it’s really surreal and exciting—he’s going to marry the love of his life! I’m looking forward to the day, and I am so ready (and I hope you are too!) to cry many manly tears of joy 🙂

Vivian (or Ci Vivs as I like to call her, much to her annoyance ;)), was the first Melbournian I’ve met and I am extremely lucky that she was the one stuck with me as my housemate for the next two and half years. From how loving and humble she is to her unwavering selflessness, there isn’t a day that goes by where I do not learn something new from her.

If I’m being honest, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be a functioning adult without Vivian in my life. She taught me all there is to do with cooking, Uni, friendships and how to love God above it all. She is a role model through and through, not just to her adopted child (yours truly) but also to all whose lives she touches.

That all changed when I met Jin (Ko Jin) … in a good way :D. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous when Vivian told me her (then) boyfriend was a pastor in training. But all of that melted away when I realized how down-to-earth, serving-minded, (and boardgame-savvy) Jin is. Jin always brings the best out of Vivian and she out of him. My admiration and love for both of them have only grown since then. The waiting is over Ci Vivs and Ko Jin! God bless you and God bless your marriage!
